Tour Sintra, Cabo da Roca & Cascais
On this tour, you will be transported into a fairytale as you visit Sintra – a unique place in the world, the first “Cultural Landscape” to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In ancient times it was known as “Serra da Lua”, a place of prehistoric cults and rituals. In the 19th century, it became the exponent of the romantic ideal, materialised in the stunning Pena National Palace. King Fernando II transformed the ruins of a monastery into a palace, combining Gothic, Egyptian, Islamic and Renaissance elements and creating a luxurious natural park with local and exotic vegetation. After visiting Pena Palace, lunch in the town of Sintra, where you can also visit the Sintra National Palace, Quinta da Regaleira or taste the region’s famous sweets: travesseiros and queijadas. Next we take you to Cabo da Roca – the westernmost point of the European continent – where you can surprise yourself with fantastic pictures of the fabulous views, where “the land ends and the sea begins”. We continue along the coast, passing the wonderful Guincho Beach, a surfer’s paradise, and the rock formation of Boca do Inferno, to Cascais. Admire the charm of this former holiday village for royalty and enjoy a walk through the pretty cobbled streets, lined with elegant shops and cafés. On the way back to Lisbon, we drive along the fabulous Estrada Marginal, which was the country’s first tourist road in the 1940s. We also pass through Estoril, where Ian Fleming was inspired, during World War II to create the 007 James Bond character, the world’s most famous spy.
