Located in the Central Group, the island has an area of 173 km\u00b2 and a population of about 15,000 inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The island was colonized in the 15th century and has a rich cultural heritage, including churches, forts, and museums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faial is an active volcanic island, and it is possible to visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/parquesnaturais.azores.gov.pt\/en\/\">Caldeira<\/a>, a volcanic crater with a 2 km diameter.
