Both on the water&#8217;s surface and in the vicinity of the cave and the Benagil sinkhole, as announced by the National Maritime Authority in an edict published on July 30. These guidelines significantly impact Benagil Caves access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-access-restrictions\">Access restrictions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new measures prohibit both private individuals and companies from disembarking or using the sandy area inside the Benagil sinkhole. They also forbid access to the caves by swimming or using flotation devices. Another restriction includes the prohibition of renting kayaks without the presence of a guide in the cave area. These restrictions aim to control Benagil Caves access efficiently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-visit-regulation\">Visit regulation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To better manage the flow of visitors, limits have been set on the number of boats and kayaks allowed inside the cave at the same time. This includes setting maximum visit times and a ratio of one guide kayak for every six tourist kayaks on guided tours. Such measures ensure better Benagil Caves access management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-penalties-for-violations\">Penalties for violations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maritime-tourism operators who do not comply with the new rules outlined in the edict will be subject to fines ranging from 300 to 216,000 euros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This measure aims to ensure compliance with the new regulations and preserve the integrity of the site regarding Benagil Caves access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-importance-of-the-benagil-caves\">The importance of the Benagil Caves<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Benagil caves, near Benagil beach, are a significant natural heritage site and a major tourist attraction in the Algarve. In summer, more visitors flock to the area, especially by sea, drawn by its unique beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new rules, effective 10 business days post-publication, were developed by the Benagil Caves Working Group, formed in August 2023. These measures are essential to ensure visitor safety, protect the environment, and preserve this important natural heritage for future generations.
